Step-by-step instructions
Follow these cues to master proper technique and stay safe through every rep.
- Step 1Setup
- Adjust the leg press machine to ensure your back is supported and your feet can comfortably reach the platform.
- Sit down with your back against the pad and place your feet shoulder-width apart on the platform.
- Step 2Position Your Feet
- Position your feet so that the balls of your feet are on the platform, with your heels hanging off the edge.
- Ensure that your toes are pointing slightly outward for better balance.
- Step 3Engage Your Core
- Keep your core tight and your back pressed against the pad throughout the exercise.
- This will help maintain stability and prevent injury.
- Step 4Lift the Weight
- Push through the balls of your feet to lift the weight, extending your ankles and raising your heels as high as possible.
- Avoid locking your knees at the top of the movement.
- Step 5Lower the Weight
- Slowly lower your heels back down towards the platform, allowing your calves to stretch.
- Control the movement to avoid bouncing or using momentum.
- Step 6Repeat
- Perform the calf raises for the desired number of repetitions, maintaining proper form throughout each rep.
- Step 7Finish the Exercise
- After completing your reps, carefully lower the weight back to the starting position.
- Unrack the machine if necessary and stand up, ensuring you maintain good posture.
